frequently asked questions
What kind of structure can CLADLINER be used on?
Although it was designed specifically for manholes, CLADLINER can be used throughout the entire collection system (including lift stations, and man accessible pipes etc.). It is designed for infrastructure that requires high resistance to H2S.
Can CLADLINER be applied by hand, or by trowel, or do you need special spray equipment?
CLADLINER can be hand applied by trowel and also sprayed using a simple high powered mortar pump like the Graco M680 or S340. See technical data sheet for more information.
Who can apply CLADLINER? Is any training required?
Contractors can apply it easily. Watch CLADLINER’s mixing and application video to learn the simple application process. Contact your local distributor for more information on any certification and training programs in your area.
Does the product shrink during or after curing?
Shrinking before or after curing occurs at an insignificant rate (ASTM C‐157 <0.005%).
[av_toggle title='Does this product leach any chemicals into the water product stream that can be harmful to the environment?’ tags=”] CLADLINER cures safely with no harmful effects. In addition, CLADLINER products incorporate a formula that contains a broad-spectrum, highly effective antimicrobial agent called CladAM. CladAM has been clinically tested and shown to react with key proteins in a microbe’s outer membrane, blocking the transfer of necessary nutrients into the cell. CladAM therefore minimizes or eliminates microbial growth.
What kind of surface preparation does CLADLINER require?
The surface must be clean, in sound condition, and surface saturated dry. All oil, dust, grease, dirt, loose rust, and other foreign material must be removed to ensure adequate adhesion. Minimum recommended surface preparation for concrete and masonry: SSPC-SP13/NACE 6 ICRI No. 310.2R, CSP 5-7.
What personal protective equipment is required to handle CLADLINER?
CLADLINER has no VOCs and is 100% solids therefore the PPE needed s similar to the paint industry. Generally, we recommend protective clothing and gear to protect the ears, nose, and mouth. Always follow specific SDS requirements for each product.
Why not just use a traditional cementitious liner like calcium aluminate to restore the manhole?
Calcium aluminate and Portland cement will not protect against corrosive substances, such as hydrogen sulfide, that are found in the manhole system, such as hydrogen sulfide, nearly as effectively as CLADLINER. See the FAU published study found at CLADLINER.com for more specific data.
What is the cost compared to cementitious liners?
CLADLINER is comparable in price to high performance cementitious systems like pure fused calcium aluminate. It is generally much more cost effective than most high build epoxy systems.
How do you determine the water pressure when spraying a manhole in preparation for coating it?
Typical pressures range between 3,000 and 5,000 psi. This varies, depending on what is needed to achieve: SSPC-SP13/NACE 6 ICRI No. 310.2R, CSP 5-7.
How is the thickness determined/controlled?
Depending on the condition of the existing concrete and also the temperature, the thickness can range between ¼” and 1”. The application thickness of the product can be controlled by use of a notch trowel or by simply estimating coverage. For a typical 48” diameter structure one kit of CLADLINER should cover approximately 1.5 vertical feet when applied at 250 mils (¼”) thickness.
What is the life time expectation for the hybrid epoxy?
It is similar to a high build epoxy system. At specified thicknesses, it can extend a few decades in most environments.
What is the max thickness that will adhere to the wall?
CLADLINER can be applied up to 2 inches in a single pass, depending on surface conditions and temperature.
Is any special equipment required to apply CLADLINER?
All you need is an electric drill mixer and a trowel everything else you need can be found in CLADLINER’s square pail. The product should be mixed right in the pail.
The ground infiltration while rehabbing the manhole cannot be controlled. How can this product be applied with continuous infiltration?
The active leaks need to be stopped long enough for the CLADLINER to fully cure. Once CLADLINER cures it will assist in holding back long term infiltration.
What is the shelf life of this products?
Two years. It should be stored indoors at temperatures ranging between 50 and 90 degrees F.
